The NSW Roads and Traffic Authority has undertaken a review of the rules for power assisted bicycles.
Their initial proposal was put out for public comment.
Subsequently a meeting in Sydney was held to review the comments received and the RTA will make further recommendations.
June 2009 – The RTA has produced a paper discussing the situation with power assisted bikes and has invited comment.
The RCTA will be responding to the discussion paper, and our response will be added to this site shortly.

September 2010 – The proposal to lift the power rating is now in Canberra, awaiting a decision.
May 2012 - On Wednesday the 30th of May, the Parliamentary Secretary of Infrastructure and Transport, The Hon Catherine King MP, announced that the federal government will be adopting an addition to the electric bicycle design rules.
The current ADR definition of AB category has now been expanded to allow compliance with the full EN 15194 standard as an option.
