In Australia, specialist bike shops account for about 45% of bike sales, in numbers, but a much higher proportion in terms of dollar value. Exact figures are difficult to obtain, although Customs import figures indicate that there was an approximate of 1.5m bicycles imported in the year ending June 2008.
This includes all bicycles from juvenile models upwards and there is a limited breakdown by type available.
