Manual Handling
Monday, 14 September 2009 15:03

Manual handling poses a big risk in bicycle shops. Safe lifting and carrying is paramount in avoiding injury to workers. Tasks ranging from unloading boxed bicycles from delivery vehicles to sweeping the workshop floor can result in injuries if not done correctly.

There are a number of guides available which can help avoid injuries, risk assessment tools include forms that should be filled out for each potential job.

Many injuries can be avoided by changing the way in which jobs are done; this can be a simple as asking for help, or as involved in redesigning racking systems for display of bicycles in the showroom.
